In defense of Roman Polanski.

You may have heard about the recent arrest of well-respected movie director Roman Polanski. Back during the 70s he pleaded guilty to drugging and raping a 13-year-old girl, soon afterward he "fled" the United States, never to return. In the days following his arrest, a lot of people, some famous, have voiced their support for Polanski and we'd like to go on record and throw our hat into that ring too.

First, let's examine some indisputable facts: When this "rape" took place, it was during the 1970s, a very liberal, sexually open era where people "experimented" and engaged in activities that in today's staunch, morally black and white society may appear "drastically inappropriate and "criminal"" But back in the '70s it wasn't uncommon for a 44-year-old man to seduce a 13-year-old girl with wine and barbiturates, then after ignoring her pleas for him to stop, proceed to sodomize her (among other things.)Happened all the time!

Second, it's been falsely believed that Polanski "ran away to Europe" after pleading guilty to "engaging in unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor". Wrong. See, what had happened was, Polanski remembered some important paperwork in London that he desperately needed, so he boarded a plane and just forgot to come back. That's all. He just forgot he was due back in the United States for his sentencing. A common human folly. We've all forgotten things before. Are we really going to crucify a man for being human? Come on.

Now, some people in the anti Polanski camp, these "moral crusaders", might point out the discrepancies in our support of him when celebrities such as the late Michael Jackson and R. Kelly were vilified when they too were accused of misconduct with a minor and might question why Polanski gets a pass, after "admitting" to "wrong-doing" and they don't. That's easy. There's actual video evidence of R. Kelly urinating on teenage girls, we don't recall a Roman Polanski sex tape, do you? Didn't think so. And as far as Michal Jackson was concerned, well, he looked weird and is it too much of an assumption and sweeping generalization to say that most weird-looking people usually do "bad shit" with kids? Plus, both those guys are/were black, don't forget that important fact.

We will be taking to the streets with signs proclaiming "Free Roman Polanski!" and we're in talks with Woody Allen to put together a benefit concert in Polanski's honor, more on this soon hopefully. Free Roman Polanski!
